In this episode we discuss newborn sleep, although why would be because let’s be honest here, newborn babies don’t sleep. At least not in the way you might hope.
Newborn Babies are Mysterious
When my first was born I was given the advice, “Follow his lead! He’ll let you know what he needs!” Really? Because he was generally fussy and I could never tell if he was hungry, tired, bored, gassy, or some combination therein. Truthfully the whole thing was baffling and I spent my first few months as a new Mom exhausted and confused.

wow, this all resonates! at the very end you talk about self-care. I remember always being thirsty and feeling too rushed to drink, so a similar solution was leaving glasses of water everywhere.
This is such a terrific and reassuring podcast to here when you have a newborn.
Guys! Guys! Check it out – our first positive review!
Thank you SO much for your kind words! And I love that you find it reassuring. It’s a collaborative effort and our goals were:
– brief (generally <30 minutes)
- conversational (everybody brings great thoughts to the table)
- reassuring (parents are so stressed!)
Really appreciate you checking it out 🙂
When I click on the links above on my iPhone they don’t work, and a search in the iPhone podcasts app doesn’t bring it up. Do you know if it’s possible to listen from my phone, or do I need to use a desktop?
PLEEEZE check back again tomorrow! You need to publish a Podcast RSS feed BEFORE you can submit to podcast directories (iTunes et al) and then it takes then 24+ hours to approve your submission. But I promise those links will work shortly!
If you follow me via email or on Facebook I’ll be announcing there as soon as the links are live!
Success! Subscribed through the iPhone podcasts app 🙂
HAZAAH!
LOVED the podcast. Wish I had heard this before having my son. Can’t wait for future podcasts!!
Thank you!
Great podcast! I have a 9 week old and needed this today.
This was such a great podcast! Please do many many more! Super helpful, my baby is 3 weeks old and I’ve been struggling for the past 2 weeks specifically with sleep and fussiness. This was such great information and helped so much because I realized that my baby was over tired and since then it’s been a lot better. And the tips at the end were amazing. Thank you so much!
I’m so glad you liked it! Make sure you check out everything from the Newborn Survival Guide here: https://www.preciouslittlesleep.com/newborn-baby-sleep-survival-guide/
Thank you so much for this! My son is 3 weeks old and I have been struggling with the newborn phase. Just hearing that it is ok and what we’re going through is normal is so helpful. I was starting to question my ability and so needed to hear this.
Cheers Michelle – yeah newborns are HARD. And then, thankfully, one day they aren’t 🙂
I am a new mother with a 2 week old at home. I can’t tell you what a relief it was to listen to this. The weight of *everything* I have been stressing over since the day I got home is now lifted! Officially subscribed 🙂
So glad we could help lift that weight even a little bit 😉
